French edition first published in 1760, English translation first published in 1769, Arnaud's edition first published in 1773. Goulard was a French surgeon in Montpellier famous for preparations based on the "extract of Saturn" or Goulard's extract, a solution of lead acetate and lead oxide used as an astringent. (See J.H.
