A reissue of the sheets of the anonymous edition of 1782, with an altered title-page bearing the author's name. Elizabeth Griffith was a playwright in David Garrick's circle who had turned to writing to supplement the meagre income of her husband, a penniless Irish farmer with aristocratic connections. Copy Notes Bought by Mrs Soane from Thomas Boone for 1s. 6d., 12 or 14 March 1812. (Spiers Box). Inscribed in ink on front free-endpaper Eliza. Soane. Former owner's bookplate obscured. Some pencil markings and ink annotations.

Binding C18th sprinkled calf, gilt-tooled spine with urn motif, red morocco spine-label.
