Quarter-sheet, folded, verso and conjugate leaf blank. Drop-head title. Imprint from foot of p. 2. The lectures were 'To be delivered in the Theatre of the London Institution, on Thursday Evening, the 21st of March, and following Thursdays, ...' The London Institution was founded in 1806 to provide lectures for the diffusion of useful knowledge, a library and a periodicals reading room. It later became especially known for its contribution to the study of chemistry.

Copy Notes Recto of conjugate leaf used for an ALs dated 4 February 1831 from John Britton complaining of sickness and the bad weather, and presumably describing the preparation of the lectures: I am hard working on / a subject which you know how to appreciate: / both to the labour & responsibility. However I / am embarkd on the Ocean, & must either work / my passage cautiously & skilfully, or sink.
