Drop-head title. Soane added this account of his design for a royal palace to his fifth lecture towards the end of his life; it was read for him at the Royal Academy by Henry Howard in 1832 and 1834. The addition to Lecture V (Soane Case 153) is reproduced in David Watkin, Sir John Soane: Enlightenment thought and the Royal Academy Lectures (Cambridge 1996), pp. 694-95. Soane had an edition of 25 copies of this work printed by James Moyes in March 1832; it includes impressions of plates XXXIV, IV, 32, 25, 16 and 17 from the expanded 1832 edition of Designs for public and private buildings, (q.v.). Binding C19th full brown calf, gilt and blind-tooled and ruled borders, gilt and blind-tooled spine, dark green calf spine-label, gilt-lettered 'Designs For A/ Royal Palace &c. &c.', stamped 'London / 1832', gilt edges. Two copies were bound by Edwin Hutchinson on 12 May 1832 for £1 16s. and supplied with cases costing 8d. (Archives 7/16/5).
