A reprint of Alessandro Baratta's map first published in 1627. In this state the date in the caption title has been altered to read as above and the upper righthand corner of the plate has been reworked replacing the armorial cartouche with an image of the Virgin and Child on a crescent; to the left of this is a two-line imprint reading 'Giõn. Orlandi Lo. Stanpa in Neapoli Ristampata Per Nicola Mavtone in Napoli. 1679'. The Soane copy has the leaves bound as double-page plates in two volumes. The first ten leaves contain the map proper; the remaining three leaves each bear the impressions of two plates printed head to head and form an image captioned 'Vero Disegno Della Nobilissima Cavalcata Che Si Svol Fare In ... Napoli Cosi Nell'Ingresso Di Ciaschedvno Vicere, ...' intended to be placed at the foot of the map. A facsimile of the 1627 map edited by Cesare De Seta was published in Naples in 1986.

Copy Notes Bound at the end is an extraneous, untitled map of the Pozzuoli region in Campania with a dedication top right to '... Matteo de Capua, Conte de Palena' signed 'Mario Cartaro ... Napoli Anno. 1588.', keyed to references 1--33 split between upper left and lower right . Volume I front pastedown inscribed in ink R. 2. uol. Wilsons Sale / [Baker & Leigh?]. 1778 - May -. Both volumes inscribed in ink on front free-endpaper Sr. George Markham / paid. Volume I inscribed in pencil on the front free-endpaper 2 vol - 5s and vol. II on the verso of the first printed leaf 2 vol - 15s.

Binding C18th quarter sheep, blue paper boards, white paper spine coverings with ink-lettered spine-title 'Baratta.s / Naples.'.
