The first edition of the third English version (after Sir Thomas Hoby, 1574 and Robert Samber, 1724). In this issue, 'To The Reader' is on the verso of the last page of the dedication 'To The King', and there is a list of subscribers ([5] pp.). Pages 470, 471 misnumbered 471, 470 respectively. Parallel Italian and English texts; text and register are continuous. Portrait engraving by George Vertue from an original by Raphael. ESTC n956.

Copy Notes Front free-endpaper with bookseller's inscription in pencil Italian & English / Opposite Columns / =s4/6d / with fine Portrait/ by Vertue. Bills in the archive show that Soane bought two copies of the present work from Thomas Boone, of which only the present copy is now in Soane's library: 'Castiglione's Courtier 4to.' bought for 5s. on 24 April 1806 (Spiers Box), and 'Courtier Ital & Eng' bought for 5s. on 13 May 1807 (Spiers Box).
