Printer information from vol. VI colophon, publisher from the 'Privilège' (vol. I, p. lxiv). The second issue with the correction 'Comtesse' [for 'Comteese'] in vol. VI, p. 360. In vol. III pages 81--88 are misnumbered 71--78. Includes 'Memoires sur la Vie & les Ouvrages de Moliere' by J.L.I. de La Serre (vol. I, pp. [xvii]--lxi). With a portrait of Molière engraved by Nicolas-Bernard Lépicié after Charles Antoine Coypel, and the plates engraved by Laurent Cars after François Boucher. Many of the engraved head- and tail-pieces are by Blondel. 'Le chef-d'oeuvre de Boucher, comme illustration; c'est l'un des plus beaux livres de la première partie du XVIIIe siècle'. Copy Notes Bought for 40 francs from Porquet [?], presumably via an agent, with the works of Rousseau, 18 volumes folio, 1793--1800 (q.v.), 260 francs and J.F. Sobry's De l'architecture, 1776 (q.v.), 3.50 francs, totalling Fr.303.50, 2 September 1831. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.7.23). £19 4s. 5d. was paid on 2 October 1831 (Priv. Corr.XVI.E.7.26), i.e. 12 2s. 11d. for the books and £7 1s. 6d. for Carriage, porterage - Duty at Dieppe and Brighton -- with case-. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.7.24).

Binding Contemporary C18th marbled calf, gilt triple-rule borders, gilt-tooled spines with small floral motifs, red morocco spine-labels, marbled fore-edges and endpapers.
