The second volume only of a translation of Pliny's Letters by John Boyle, Earl of Orrery, first published in 1751 in quarto (q.v.), with a second, octavo edition following in the same year. The first volume title-page reads as above until '... each Letter; And an Essay on Pliny's Life, Addressed to Charles Lord Boyle. Volume I.' and omits the edition statement. Half title: Pliny's letters with observations. The illustrations are headpieces and tailpieces engraved by J. Bonneau after S. Wale; there is also an engraved title-page vignette by J. Van der Gucht, and another engraved vignette on the special title-leaf to book X in vol. II. Includes a table of contents and 'Explanation of the Copper Plates' at the end of each volume. Binding C18th sprinkled calf, gilt double-ruled borders, gilt double-ruled spine with gilt-tooled fleurons incorporating a coronet, red morocco spine-label.
